At Austin Amplifier we repair vintage amplifiers. We also tune up your gem to bring back that special sound only tubes can deliver.

Are your tubes weak? Broken jack? Burned out transformer? Buzzing? Blowing fuses? Smoking? No problem. We will diagnose and fix your problem.

Is your Tremolo weak or dead?  A common problem is a worn out LDR.  We offer an Austin Amplifier exclusive replacement, the "Black Widow".  The Black Widow offers deep pulsating tremolo over a wide range of speed.

If your reverb isn't up to snuff, we can diagnose and replace worn out or broken reverb tanks or fix any electronic components that have gone bad.

If you're not sure what you need or how much you want to spend, we will put your amp up on the bench for a small fee and let you know what your options are.

We can do some modifications, even bend your amp into a "Black Face" for example.

After we're done, "dime" it out on the in-store stage.

Tired of your old amp? We offer refurbished amps if you desire a new direction or we can rent you one if you aren't sure what sound you want.
Just give us a call or drop buy to discuss what we can do for you.

While most of our work is on popular brands like Fender, Marshall, Ampeg, HiWatt, Mesa Boogie, Gibson, Music Man, Matchless, Roland, Crate, VOX, Peavey, Orange, Sovtek, Carvin, we have a special place in our heart for really old beauties like Silvertone, Rickenbacker, Danelectro, Selmer, Airline and many more....

We will take the time to make you a happy customer. That's our job.

We offer "Rush" service if time permits at a slightly higher rate to get you to your gig on time.
We prefer to keep your amp for a week or two to give us time to diagnose and possibly order parts to make it "old" again!

We are "attached" to Walter Hutcherson's Musical Exchange.  Feel free to bring your guitar in for a tuneup while your amp is being worked on.  The Muscial exchange also offers instrument repair, speaker re-coning and instrument rental.

Our North Loop neighborhood also has a variety of shops worth checking out.

We are located at 5214 Avenue F in central Austin, TX. (see map below)

We have also opened a new location in the Soundcheck Austin facility.  Please drop by to see the new shop and get a tour of the newest most professional rehearsal facility in Austin.  Also located in this building you will find the only Fender Custom shop in Austin as well as the Peavey showroom, Bearcom and much more.  Click here for a map to the new location.  Austin Amplifer Soundcheck location.

Austin Amplifier is proud to carry products from the following manufacturers.
We are authorized distributors of these products and can help you decide which brand makes sense for your application and budget.

Electro Harmonix is a brand owned by the New Sensor Corporation and are manufactured at their Xpo-Pul factory (also known as Reflektor) in Saratov, Russia. New Sensor is an American corporation and since taking ownership of this factory has been steadily improving the quality of current production tubes. These tubes are all of new designs and are of excellent quality.
Mike Mathews now owns the Tung-Sol name and is making tubes to match the legenday 1950s Tung-Sol tubes of the past. New Sensor has dissected new old stock Tung Sol tubes to determine the cathode formulas, mettalurgy and design to make the best replicas available today.
Mike Matthews of New Sensor has reissued the famed Mullard EL34! These tubes have been carefully blueprinted from the original Blackburn, UK XF-2 type tubes and are superior performers at very reasonable prices. Gold plated screen grids, high vacuum and tight tolerances make these tubes incredible performers.

Your quest for truly inspirational and superior tone has led you to the final link in the chain -- Mercury Magnetics. Premium guitar amplifier power transformersoutput transformers and chokes.

Transformer sets are often misunderstood, yet vital musical components. They're integral to the nuances of your guitar amp's sound. Far more than tubes, speakers or other amp components, the transformers establish the platform for shaping your amp's unique sound.

As amp designers, techs and manufacturers are discovering, the practice of dumping generic, low-bidder transformers into their amps isn't cutting it any more. Today's players are more informed and demanding than ever before. They hear the differences and know that both transformer design and build-quality will have a dramatic affect on their tone. In fact, if your amp is suffering from bland and unexciting tone then it's probably related to low-end or poorly designed transformers.

You'll be absolutely blown away by the dynamic improvement in tone only possible with Mercury upgraded transformers.
